Engine Mechanical problem
1993 Ford Crown Victoria V8 Automatic 150, 00 miles

my car is back firing from the engine, I let it run for 5min or more before taking off. It goes real slow down the street even if I put the pedal to the floor and still back firing at the same time. After going 2 to 3 blks then it kicks in and runs fine, until it is left for hours at a time then it starts all over again. What could be the problem? And is it expensive to fix?
this is also a police intercepter car that I bought 3yrs ago.

Probable causes:

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires
