I have a 1993 Ford Bronco 5.0 with 185, XXX miles. When I start it, it runs fine. But as soon as I drive it, the engine has a slight knock and the Oil Gauge shows no pressure. I just changed the Oil with 10W-30, and the dipstick shows full oil. A mechanic told me that if it were the oil pump, then it would be making the knocking noise as soon as I start it. Any suggestions? No sluge in the oil. Heavier Oil?

Your mechanic is right. The engine would make a lot of noise if the oil pump failed. Most likely not the oil pump.

You could try heavier oil. That's what most people do when they find they have low or no oil pressure. If however your engine is just plain worn beyond tolerences, then that is most likely a temporary fix at best.

To rule out a bad guage or sending unit, hook a mechanical oil pressure guage up to it to see for sure what kind of pressure you are in fact getting, then go from there. Let us know.
