Transmission problem
1988 Ford Bronco V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi it would be great if you could help me solve this problem. I swaped the 302 in my 88 bronco for a 351 out of a 92 ford pickup. The engine works great but I have a tranny problem, the new engine bolted right into the tranny and seemed to work fine but I have to rev it up to barly move. I flat decked it to a reliable tranny shop where they took it in and out 3 times and could not find the problem. So im a a loss for tying to figure it out, got any ideas? Thanx a bunch

Ok I need spome info to try to help. First off is it carbed now or still injected? You do know that these are two different blocks and only share the same belhousing? Did you change the computer too? Get back to me and we will take it from there.

Hey so the new engine that I put in my bronco is out of a 92 ford pickup 2 wheel drive. I got a new tranny from ford, the same as the original one and put that in my bronco. Could I possibly need a computer from a 351 4x4 instead of the 2x4 comp that I have installed? I doint think that it should make a difference. It seems like the tranny is not getting the signal to up shift

Yes true but you also need to make sure that the trany's are the same. In other words. If the 92 had a E4OD rather then and AOD then the trany will not work correcty. So make sure the computer is for a 5.8 with the AOD not E4OD and that should fix the problem with the trans.

Does E40D meen a 2x4 tranny with out the transfer case and AOD meen a 4x4 tranny with a transfercase?

No E4OD is Electric 4 spd Over Drive Transmission (automatic trans still). AOD is Automatic Over Drive Trans. Yes I am saying that you need to find a computer from a similar era that has an AOD trans.
