Electrical problem
1985 Ford Bronco V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 130k miles

Hi. I recently came across a 100amp alternator for a Ford, and I thought it would replace my current alternator. However, the inputs on the back of the alternators are different. I have a b+ terminal, a ground terminal, a FLD terminal, and a STA terminal. The alternator I bought has a b+ terminal, then a 2-plug plugin area off to the side. I understand that my alternator has an external regulator and that the new one has an internal regulator. Are they able to be swapped by adding/eliminating wiring/ the regulator, or an adapter harness? Is there anything I can do since I spent good money on this new part?

Newer style ford alternators are very hard to get to work on an older vehicle. Most alt rebuilding shops cant even mak them work. New style ford alt use the little light bulb on the dash to start charging. I dont have any wire diagrams in front of me but I know this from experience. I have a 91 ford race car and removed my guage cluster and without the light bulb in the dash I coudnt get the alt to charge. If u take it to a rebuilder or ask the right ford guy he will tell you how to do it bt you have to put a push button in and everytime you start your truck you have to tap it to get it to start charging or it wil never energize. Hope this helps.
