Okay, the oil light flickers in my 1996 Ford Aerostar with a V6 after riding on the highway. Around town it doesn't come on unless we ride for an extended amount of time. So is it the oil pump or oil pressure sensor? The engine doesn’t knock or make any noises. The top of the engine appears to be getting plenty of oil as well.

So how hard is it to replace the oil pump? Can I replace it by just removing the oil pan or does the Areostar require you to tear off the front of the motor? Help!

The oil pump is accessed by removing the oil pan. You don't need to remove the front of the vehicle. However, chances are the sending unit is bad and not the pump. If the pressure is getting that low, I would think you would hear a knocking or ticking from the engine.
