Will not stay running, seems like it is flooding itself out?

I have a 86 Nissan d21 vg30i v6. I've changed the fuel filter and rebuilt the throttle body. Every time I start it up it runs for 10-15 seconds and cuts off. Seems to be getting way too much gas and flooding out. Any ideas?

Hi,

Based on your description, it sounds like you may have a faulty fuel pressure regulator. (see pic below) I would suggest checking the pressure to make sure it is within the manufacturer's fuel pressure specifications.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

If you look below, I attached the pressure specifications. Note there is a vacuum hose on the regulator (pic 2). Disconnect the regulator vacuum hose and inspect it for fuel inside of it. Also, confirm the hose is good and supplies vacuum when the engine is running.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

joe

Hi,

Have you checked the fuel pressure to confirm the regulator may be the cause? Also, here is the OEM part number. It's 1624003G15. If you google search it, they show up. As far as Nissan, certainly, by now they have discontinued it.

If you look at pic 2, it provides three different manufacturers that produce an aftermarket. The other manufacturers' part numbers are listed on the interchange. (Pic 2)

Let me know if that helps.

Joe
