My car has a hks muffler (aftermarket) and usually has a nice deep tone, and rather loud. However, after not driving the car for two days, upon driving it again I noticed the exhaust was much more quiet and did not have that deep tone that it had before (basically noticeably much more quiet than before). I do not have poor MPG, or any acceleration/power problems so I am unsure of why this has happened.

A baffle in the muffler may have dislodged, often if you give the muffler a sharp thump with the palm of your hand, (cold exhaust) you may hear it vibrate or knock internally.

Sometimes you cannot hear the baffle being loose. I would take it to a muffler shop and let them look at it. It sounds like the muffler is bad.

Please let us know what you find.

Cheers, Ken
