Exhaust

Okay, I was desperate I knew I needed a few things done to my truck, this mechanic place I went to does payment plans and I am feeling he may have ripped me off. I know my exhaust needed a new one because it fell off it was rusted had a whole in it. I go to look at the exhaust they put in a few days later and I do not like it one bit they charged me $500.00. I am expecting a nice exhaust. My old exhaust was more wider had a odd rounded shape at the end but I liked it. My truck is a v8 I like how that vroom sounds when your rev your engine and now I do not like what it sounds like. My question is, what can I say to the mechanic? Is he going to charge me to put a new one on? Or since I am not satisfied would he replace it for me? I am putting two pictures of it and it is old looking to. Like I said he charged me $500.00 alone for this and I just feel like I was ripped off. Please help me.

It looks like them old items are the old resonators and he welded the new exhaust pipe to the old resonators. It looks like a really poor weld job, too. I can almost wear that the one https://www.2carpros.com/images/question_images/203719/large.jpg actually still has 2 small holes where the weld is.
I truly doubt if he is going to do any further work unless he is paid though. If you are certain you want any further work done, I would have a look at the exhaust before it is even installed. Does your receipt show that he had to purchase the exhaust cause some shops bend and make their own right there in their shop, if of course they have a bending machine.

Looking at that second picture again, it even looks like the pipe and small section is old, too. You are correct, some does look old.

How long ago was this repair done and what does the receipt say they did? From the pictures it looks like they cut the rusted section of the old pipe off, added a couple pieces of tubing and a used cherry bomb style muffler.
At the moment you can get a complete catalytic converter back bolt on system for around $300.00 plus shipping from Rock Auto and your local parts store can likely get you a similar system for around that price.

As for the repair that was done on your truck. I would say that is at best a $200.00 repair and that is being generous.

The guy charged me $500.00 it said for complete exhaust on my receipt. And I got it back October second. He also charged me for an oil change which he never even filled it up with oil that same day I got back I checked it later that day and it was at the add mark. He also re did my valve cover gaskets because I knew I was having an oil leak and it was coming from the top. I am really furious about it. I am having a guy I know check at everything they did later this week to make sure they did fix it.

Okay, if he did the valve covers, "exhaust" and an oil change $500.00 would be a bit high but not real bad.

But there is no way that is a complete exhaust. I would have a different shop check it over and then go from there.

Good luck. Hope it works out for you.

The $500.00 was just for the exhaust, the valve covers were separate and I will thank you.
