Other than the ticking, which is normal for this engine, I've recently had this engine start making a noise similar to when you run an engine without oil for a long time, kind of like a light knocking. The oil is topped up all the way. Is this cause for concern, or no?

Hi,

I noticed it was louder when you were near the serpentine belt. It could be a failing bearing in one of the belt-driven accessories.

Before we jump to conclusions and call it an engine issue, remove the belt and start the engine to see if the noise is gone. If it is, with the engine off, turn each of the accessories to see if you can recreate the sound or if any feel like they are difficult to turn or rough.

Toyota doesn't provide directions for belt removal. Here is a link you may find helpful. It explains in general how it's done.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,
