Welcome to 2CarPros.

This vehicle isn't offered in the US, so my technical information is very limited. However, I will try to help.

What you described sounds like the fuel pressure is dropping off which requires the three cycles of the key to build up enough pressure to start.

Try this and let me know what you find.

1) turn the key from off to run (engine off) and count to 5.
2) Repeat step 1 three times. On the 4th time, engage the starter and see if it starts properly.

If it does, fuel pressure drop off is the issue. You can also check fuel pressure and see how long it takes to drop after turning the engine off. Since it doesn't happen after the first start of the day, it may take time, but I feel after sitting over night, it drops to 0psi.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Did it start normally when you cycled the key?

Dear Joe, yes, however It starts okay when I don't wait running diagnosis, but go directly to run engine.

Welcome back:

I'm confused. In the original post, you said it has a delayed start when the vehicle sits. Is that what is happening? In the last post, you say it starts without delay.

Let me know.

Take care,
Joe

Dear Joe, thanks for your patience. Yes indeed my car has a delayed start when it's cold, it requires two - three key turnarounds and during the rest of day it starts very smoothly. However, yesterday I've tried to quickly turn the key to run engine position (not waiting the diagnosis to finish) and to my surprise it started. I've learned about this '"technique'" only yesterday at a a Lancia blog. The problem though still remains.

Welcome back:

The next thing I would suggest checking is the engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT). The ECT is what tells the computer the engine's temperature and based on that, the needed air / fuel mixture is determined. If the sensor is off, the fuel mixture will be off too and that can cause a starting issue cold. You will need a live data scanner to do this.

So cycling from off to on and waiting each time doesn't change it?
