Yesterday, I was driving on the highway and an alarm went off and displayed the message "engine coolant over temperature". My temperature gauge went from the middle, where it normally sits, to the red zone. Stayed there for about ten seconds and then went back to the middle and the message and alarm disappeared.

Happened twice today. Same scenario.

Not sure if it is related, but very recently I have noticed the sound of liquid flowing when I accelerate from stopped.

Hope you can help me to figure this out! Thank you.

Hello Kimberley

Welcome to 2CarPros. Com! How are you doing? Did you check the coolant level? It can be just lacking coolant and needs filling. Please do not fill the coolant reservoir above the max level because this can cause overheating issue. It needs air for the coolant to circulate to the radiator. You may need to replace the radiator cap as well for if it is worn out, this issue may occur. About the liquid flowing when accelerating, this can be a different issue. You will need a help to check the engine while someone is revving the vehicle to know where the sound is coming from. Hope this helps and thank you for choosing 2CarPros. Com. Please let me know if there is anything else I can add or help you with. I will be standing by for your response.

Regards,
Relly

I would have the cooling system pressure tested as well to find out where the coolant is going. I have seen external coolant leaks and internal (head gasket) on these vehicles at my dealership.
