Engine overheating?

Never mind nothing too big. I have no idea how to remove questions but it was just the throttle cable wire in the way. I moved it out of the way of the fan and started it back up runs nicer and a lot cooler than before.

Hi:
Have ypou checked the coolant level? If it's full, the problem is between the radiator and the thermostat.
You can remove the t-stat and place it into boiling water to see if it opens. If it doesn't, replace it. If it opens, have the radiator checked for flushing or rodding out. If it's plugged, the coolant won't circulate.

My truck over heats very quik like 20 min the top rad hose gets very hard I took the tstat out and it still over heats and the hose still gets hard

HI there,

The hose getting hard is the cooling system building up pressure, this is normal, I would be checking the cooling fans are working and get a radiator clean and flow tset done, start here.

I took the termostat out and the top rad hose is still getting very hard is that still nomal or do I have a bigger prob

HI there,

The hotter the coolant gets the higher the presser will be the harder the hose will fell, check for a blocked radiator, faulty fans, start here.

My dakota over heats I have replaced thermostat that seems not the problem. How can I tell if the coolant sensor is not working. Do you have any segestions of what it might be causeing the problem

Ensure your cooling fan(s) are coming on properly. Is your coolant level at Full mark in radiator and overflow tank? Check your oil, does it look watered down any?

THE FAN RUNS ALL THE TIME MY ENGINE IS A 360 CUBIC INCH CARBORATED. I JUST CHANGED MY OIL NOT WATERY. THE OVERFLOW TANK IS AT THE RIGHT LEVEL. I THINK IT MIGHT BE A VACUME BLOCK IN THE RAD OR HOSES HOW DO YOU RESOLVE THAT? IT MIGHT ALSO BE THE COOLANT TEMPATURE SENSOR BUT HOW CAN I TELL IF ITS NEEDING REPLACED. THANKS FOR TRYING.

You can purchase flush kits at most part stores. you use a garden hose and the kit to flush out the cooling system. this will knock out any blocks in the system .

to test the sensor, turn key OFF, disconnect the wire connector from the sensor. connect an ohmmeter between the sensor terminals. ohmmeter readings should be within specs listed below, if not then replace sensor.

My 1992 Dodge Dakota is overheating, but takes a very long time to do so, around 30-40 minutes of driving. Even going highway speeds the temp slowly climbs. Where should I start?

Always first thing. Pressure test system. Check the fluid level cold. Take off the radiator cap. Then pressure test the entire system to see if it holds pressure. It may just be down on fluid. Ok

Thank you ch112063. I did end up finding the problem, my radiator needs replaced badly. I let the engine warm up enough, and found a big cool spot on my radiator.

I have a 92 dodge dakota that just started overheating. I dont know if its related but the heater stopped working shortly before the overheating problem started. It takes a few miles or about 5-10 minutes for it to start overheating. I've replaced the fluids, hoses, and thermostat. The water pump moves freely, and the fan turns. I cant figure out whats wrong with it, and need some help. I know its old and has a ton of miles, but i'd hate to scrap it, its been a great truck until now. What/how do I test to find whats wrong, how do I replace?

You might want to have it block and pressure tested to identify a combustion gas leakage in the cooling system caused by a blown headgasket, crack head or block

When you replaced the coolant and thermostat did you bleed out the system-could be air lock causing it.

Hi,
I just bought a Dodge Dakota and I'm trying to fix it up after alot of misuse. My Dakota is overheating if it sits idle for let's say 5 min. It will also overheat in heavy traffic situations. I had the radiator flushed, Thermostat is good, and it was filled and added new antifreeze, could the oxygen sensor cause this problem? Please help!
