Welcome to 2CarPros. Well the answer is, maybe. What is wrong with the current engine? Just high mileage and wear or did something fail on it? If failure, what failed? Are both engines the same year?
I believe the short blocks are the same but the heads are not as they have extra ports for the smog parts. That means you would likely need to swap the head and all of it's parts onto the old engine. Might be easier to get a non California engine for it.
