Battery fine. Key inserted in ignition, ignition and panel lights display as normal. Key is turned to start; no sound, panel lights dim. As key is released engine starts and runs. As the engine warms the fans cut in and out intermittently with fluctuating current to them. Observable as abnormal increases/decreases in fan speed consistent with intermittent electrical contact.

If engine is switched off and attempts to start it again are made, there is no sound at all; panel lights dim. When key is removed the starter can still be heard turning very slowly. Battery must be disconnected to prevent this continuing. There is significant heat at the positive terminal of the battery whilst the starting process is ongoing such as to cause smoking at the terminal.

I would suspect a bad starter relay. I have never seen a relay setup like what they have in the picture that I have attached, so I do not know what it is going to cost to get one. If the relay is continually staying engaged, that could explain why the fans are speeding up and slowing down, as the starter is drawing a lot of power from the system, so the fans are not getting enough power. If it is cheap, then go ahead and get it. If not, let me know and we will see about testing it. You will probably have to get it from the dealer, as AutoZone is not listing one online.

It could also be the starter. If the relay is okay, then I would pull the starter off and take it to a local parts store. They will test it for free.
