There is a huge buildup of static in the truck and can even register 300-400 v/m on a gauze meter in the passenger and back seats. Also there is lots of popping in the dash and over head of the truck. Sometimes the truck loses power and that increases the static in the vehicle. What could this be? I’m tired of being shocked!

Good morning,

I would start by cleaning the battery cables. It sounds like a ground issue in the system.

Check all your grounds for being clean and tight.

Also, check the charging system. Make sure you have 14 to 14.5 volts running and then check the AC volts. You should have 0 AC volts.

Hello,

Static electricity build up is a natural occurrence usually caused by friction of clothing and car seats. This phenomenon is much more common during periods of very dry weather, as static electricity is able to naturally discharge into moist air, but dry air leaves it nowhere to go.

Different seat covers and fabrics can cause a higher build up of static.

There are 3 common ways to prevent static build up.

Anti-Static spray
This can be purchased in most stores. It is sprayed onto your seat material.
It may or may not be safe for your seats so first test a small, discreet area first.
The way that anti-static sprays work is that they essentially create a barrier between the surface of the seat and your clothes.

Static Strap
This is a conductive strap which is bolted to the bottom of the vehicles chassis. It then hangs down and contacts the ground beneath the vehicle. This is a very effective way to eliminate static electricity build up but for some people it is not aesthetically pleasing.
Please find picture attached below

Anti-Static keychain
You can also buy an anti-static keychain. These devices provide a safe, painless way to discharge any static built up in your clothes before you touch your door to get out. They typically also include some kind of display or light that flashes when static electricity is discharged through it.
See picture attached below

Please let us know how you get along.

Cheers, Boris
