I would like to know how far from the differential to CV axle has to sit. The original one was pretty close if not almost touching. The new the one I got which is aftermarket, won't go any further and it is pretty close. But I don't like the fact that it doesn't seat like the other one.

Hi,

There really isn't a specified distance indicated. If you have it fully installed and the overall length to the steering knuckle is correct, chances are it is a slightly different design (aftermarket) and is properly installed.

If there is an actual problem, I suspect you will feel a vibration while driving. Have you noticed anything like that via the steering wheel or floor?

Let me know.

Joe

I gave it a few more taps home, and then buttoned it all back together. I am currently doing the test drive as we speak. My iwe is still giving me a slight grinding noise because I know my vacuum lines probably have a leak somewhere. So, I'm pulling the solenoid connection. But as of now the CV axle feels fine. Will let you know results when I have them.

So far, the CV axle seems just fine. Any of the fine vibrations I was getting in my gas pedal due to my CV axle being bad have disappeared. I know that seems perhaps a bit presumptuous to the origin of the vibrations, but history has shown me this to be true. Plus, the vibrations were like somebody took a massager to the bottom of my foot. Not large shaking vibrations like you would see from warped rotors or bad breaks. And this is all in my gas pedal. However, my iwe that I changed is still giving me a grinding noise akin to a playing card in a bicycle spoke. Originally when the old one went bad it was like a bunch of small marbles in a tin can. I am currently investigating. So far, I've discovered that the passenger side iwe is absolutely bad and it will not hold a vacuum. My solenoid when I bought this truck was taped off and the pigtail also taped off and disconnected. I guess that was their fix instead of changing out the Hub actuators. Or looking for a leak in the vacuum line. But after testing the system it looks like the lines are holding a vacuum. It's just both my iwes went bad.

Hi,

As far as the axle is concerned, I feel it is fine and the correct one. It may have a slightly different design based on the manufacturer.

Let me know how things go with the actuator issue.

Take care and thanks for the update.

Absolutely, I appreciate all your help. I am currently digging into the passenger side. I'm changing out the iwe, sway bar link, upper control arm with the ball joint and the lower ball joint. I'm going to leave the CV axle alone for now.

Driver side before I buttoned it up. Used rust killer on the parts and areas that I couldn't afford to replace including parts of the frame and shock Tower. Primed it painted it with some Rust-Oleum and good as new.

I most certainly will. Still have my oil pan, rocker arms and timing to do. I'm going to be doing those all at once. Plus, I'm intend to check the play and my camshaft from the pulley at the bottom of the motor. One thing at a time. Take care and I will ask if I have a question.
