Driver door unable to open

The driver's door handle broke off in my hand one day; was able to unlock from the inside however, using too much force to open the door while responding to a house fire now the door will not open from inside although the mechanism is workin. How do I get the door open to fix the issues?

It sounds like the inner door handle has broken which happens. here are the replacement instructions in the diagrams below.
