Hi Gottiboys,
It could be the handle but it depends on how it is damaged. I attached the picture of the latch/actuator that is inside the door. The door ajar switch is actually on this actuator so unless the handle and the door is damaged pretty bad I would think the ajar switch would not be affected.
These ajar switches are pretty well know for sticking which would cause it to think the door is open. I would get some lubricant and spray it liberally on the latch. Then open and close the door ten to fifteen times to see if it will loosen up. The only doors that will cause the ajar light to come on are both front doors and the lift gate. I would do each one, one at a time and see if the light goes off.
If you cannot get the light to go off this way, you can check the body control module with a scan tool and it will tell you which door is ajar (obviously with all of the closed). If you don't have access to a scan tool, you may be able to check with a local parts store and they can check and see if there are any DTCs in it for this. There would be one if there is a circuit issue. However, if the switch is just stuck then it will not have any. I am not sure if these parts stores will have the ability to interrogate the BCM. You may need to actually consult a repair shop for this.
Let me know what you find and I will be happy to help further.
Thanks
