You need to look at the locking mechanism at the door-Investigate.

Put screwdriver in door latch on door and see if latch will close manually or feels really loose. Lube latch with penetrating oil then see if it will open by the handle work it a few times, then see if the door closes. If not, the latch is probably bad.
