2001 Dodge Stratus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 2001 dodge stratus coupe rt. When I tried to start it it acted like the battery was dead but jumping it did no good. So just when I was locking up getting ready to leave the horn started wuietly chirping without me having done anything. Is it possible that the anti theft system was set off and if so does that keep the vehicle from starting and if so how do you deactivate it so that the vehicle will start again.

First of all, if you hear one loud clunk when you try to start the engine, suspect worn contacts in the starter solenoid. Replacement contacts are 20 bucks, but most people just replace the entire starter. This problem starts out being very intermittent and will get worse over the next few months. It won't let you sit unless you ignore it for too long.

Some newer vehicles with computer controls activate the theft system after multiple unsuccessful attempts at starting the engine. You can reset it like normal by using the unlock button on the key fob, or by putting the key in one of the front doors and turning it to the unlock position.
