I just rebuilt engine because of a small miss, now cannot get compression. Compression keeps vairing, smokes, and still has miss below 2500rpm. Above 2500rpm runs great, but smokes. Have been told that it's out of time. But timed by spec. And didn't help.

Hi there,

First thing to do is a compression test do this dry and then wet, that is with a small amount of engine oil in the bore as this will temporary seal the ring lands and if there is a problem with the rings the comps will come up, if the comps stay low the problem is in the valves, do this test and report back your findings for further assistance.

Already tested compression;dry and wet. Didn't change. Comp. Goes from 60-120lbs. Tried to reset timing & replaced lifters, but didn't improve comp. Or smoking. Only rearranged comp. Lbs ;still going 60-120.
This car still seems to have lots of power. Easily gets to 100mph in quarter of mile, But still has miss and heavy black smoke?
