1990 Dodge Spirit, 2.5L 4 CYL. Automatic. 50k original miles. Had steering column replaced by previous owner due to theft attempt. I have replaced battery, ignition switch, and lock cylinder. Car will intermittently not start, lights come on, battery is fine, but won't start. Took it to three shops, 1 shop told me that it was an ignition switch problem, got that replaced. Worked for a few days, then problem again, another shop put it on a computer, said starter, battery, etc all fine, thought it might have something to do with shifter and steering column not being original to that car, shop could not replicate problem, told me to just jiggle shifter if car won't start. I have done everything, turned key, shifted to all gears and now it won't start. It's not a problem with the engine turning over, it doesn't even make a sound, no click, nothing when you turn the key.

Hi:
Do the dash lights come on normally? If so, it really sounds like the ignition switch is out of adjustment. Has anyone checked the starter relay?

The dash lights do come on, the radio and heater do not, however, when it won't start. I was told that it was put on a computer and the starter was checked, but they did not specifically say the starter relay had been checked. So you don't think it has anything to do with the shifter?

Hi:
It could be the neutral safety switch.
