My headlights and interior lights flicker and if allowed to continue to flicker the engine starts to bog down and will die. Giving the truck some gas will prevent this, but now the engine is blowing black smoke and not running very well, just had tune up done 100 miles ago

Hi:
I think you have 2 different problems. The black smoke indicates a rich fuel mixture. Has the check engine light come on?

The flickering with the lights sounds like a bad voltage regulator. Have the alt checked at a nationally recognized parts store. Most will do it for free.

No, the check engine light has not come on, I do belive that it is running rich also but I dont know why, found the problem to the lights flickering it was a bad engine to frame ground -truck still runs bad though gets about 3-4 MPG?
