My truck is making a clicking sound when stopping. It appears to be only be coming from the driver's side front axle or I cannot hear it clearly enough from the passenger side. I have had 4x4's for most of my life and know the ball joints tend to go out on the front end after a few years. I only use my truck for normal transportation reasons and seldom haul so most of the miles are all highway miles &/or city miles.

I realize that maybe the ball joints are going out, but my real question is, should I replace the whole front axle since I want to keep the truck for a few more years. It has been a great vehicle and looks like it just came out of the showroom.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

I would do some checking before making any decisions on what is wrong. Lift and support the vehicle and see if there is any play in the wheel, front hub bearings cn make a click noise too. At this time you can check the ball joints to see if they are indeed sloppy. Looks like a nice truck, I would definitly repair it and keep it, you know its whole history, and have obviously taken great care of it.
