The fuel filter is located under vehicle, driver side, below seating area, driver side of transmission, mounted on frame rail in fuel line on some here is a guide to help with instructions below to show you how on your truck.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Fuel filter is part of the tank unit in these, not really a serviceable item like ones in the past. Would have to drop the fuel tank out to get to it.

I would start with a fuel pressure test and a scan to see if the computer has any codes

See the guides below, they will help you figure this out

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/engine-hesitates

Attached below is a couple pictures of the fuel tank unit, so you can see the filter

The location may depend on litre size of engine. It is possible the fuel filter is integrated with the fuel pressure regulator, sits on top of fuel pump module. The fuel pump is in the gas tank.

I know a 2005 Ram does not have a fuel filter. I'm just hoping the cause of my problem is due to a filter I can replace!
Truck starts & runs fine up to about 35MPH. After that I just get a loss of power.
For the past 2 months the tank have been near empty. (At these fuel prices I just get what I need)

There is a filter in the tank under the fuel pump but I would start with a fuel pressure test should be within 35-40 psi at idle and 45-50 at high throttle.

My problem started slowly and is extremely worse. At first if the gas got down to about 1/4 then it would run wierd and stutter. There sounds like a miss, especially when I accelerate. Most times when there is more than 1/2 tank and running ok, when I am at 65 and get into the passing gear the RPM jump of course but my speed either doesnt change or drops, regardless of terrain. Recently found out fuel filter is on pump, not happy. Need some help figuring this out.

Engine Mechanical problem
1992 Dodge Ram V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I disconnected the battery, took off the valve cap from fuel rail to relieve the pressure but when I did fuel just kept coming out. I stopped. I've done this job on other vehicles and the pressure was released very quickly. Am I missing a step? Is there supposed to be alot of fuel in order to relieve the pressure?

Need to do the following to relieve fuel pressure.

Loosen the gas cap to release tank pressure.
Remove the injector wiring harness connector from the engine harness.
Connect a jumper wire between ground terminal No. 1 of the injector harness and the engine ground.
Connect a jumper wire to the second terminal and touch the battery positive post for no longer than five seconds. This releases system pressure.
Remove the jumper wire and continue fuel system service.

I just got a 1990 dodge ram truck. It starts up and runs fine for a while then just quits. I will let it sit for a while then it will start back up and run for a bit then quit again. I had it in the shop thinking it was the fuel filter cloging up. They said it didn't have a fuel filter. I find that hard to believe. They drove it and let it run and it never quit on them. I went to pick it up and it died 2 times before I got it home. I am lost now as what it is. Can you please help me. Could it be the fuel pump?

Most dodge trucks and SUV's in my experience dont have inline fuel filters they have a thing called a sock filter, thats attached to the fuel pump, the most popular way to fix the problem is buy an aftermarket fuel pump and put a inline fuel filter on, it's a cheap and easier way to insure future repairs are faster. As far as it stalling it could be your Throttle posisition sensor or fuel pump, do you have a check engine light on or flashing?

I have a 1990 dodge ram 150 custom le

engine is a 360 V8 throttle body injected,

and the truck is a 4x4

now here are the details about the problem:i can start the truck just fine like everything is normal, but after it runs for a few seconds, sometimes minutes it just stalls out. Like it is starving for fuel. ITS LIKE A FUEL DELIVERY PROBLEM it is backfiring, hesitating and stalling. ((Note)) after it stalls I can just crack it right back up. It doesnt matter if the engine is hot or cold! But dies again a few seconds later

things I have done: take off breather it seems like both ((throttle body injectors?)) Are spraying gas just fine. I replaced air filter, replaced fuel filter, looked and listened for vacuum leaks I cant seem to find any, taken off EGR VALVE letting it soak in carb cleaner over night. I was told the valve is probably stuck and that would be the best way to get it unstuck.

Now what is the next step? I really dont have the money to bring it to a mechanic, anyone more mechanically inclined then me want to help me out.

Also I dont have gauges to test pressure, or volts. Just got plain old sockets and wrenches.

Unfortunately you will need to check fuel pressure when it dies and check to see if you are loosing spark. If that is all good then you will need to find a way to borrow a digital multi meter to run some tests on the coil and such. Let me know what you can do and we will go from there. Also it would be nice if you could borrow a timing light to look at the injector spray while running to see if it is a nice even mist with no droplets.

Location depends on which engine you have. It's next to the fuel pump. Loosen the clamps, slide off the hoses and slide them onto the new filter. It won't solve anything. Except for diesel engines replacing the fuel filter on Chrysler engines is a waste of money. They last the life of the vehicle unless something very unusual happened.

To: Caradiodoc, Thanks, I'm sure you're right about the filter, but thought I would check that first. It turned out to be the pump. I appreciate the help.

I have a 1986 Dodge RamCharger with 166,000 miles on it. I have recently replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter and fuel line to the carb. But it still stalls out on me going up hills. Today I bypassed the hose comming out of the side of the fuel filter. I seem to have more power now and no stalls from lack of gas. Just wondering where that other line that comes off the side of the fuel filter goes to? : So basically I just have it comming in from the pump and out to the carb right now.

Not sure where exactly where that other line from filter goes. I called my dad to have him check, and none of our service manuals go back this far.
Generally, when you have power issues on a carb vehicle like you have, its time for a carb rebuild kit. Dont be scared, just go to a junk yard and pickup a similar carb to practice on, and rebuild it a few times using the instructions with the kit.
Once you are comfortable, buy a kit for the real thing, work slowley, and be careful to not lose any parts.
Follow the included instructions exactly for making adjustments.
