I have a 2002 dodge neon that about a month ago a noise started. On the inside it sounds almost like something beating against the car. You can't really hear it from the outside of the car, you can but you have to listen for it.
It seems to go with the engine speed. It starts as soon as you crank the car and does not stop or slow down after the car has ran for awhile.
When you put the car in reverse it will either stop, or slow a lot.
Also, when you have the car at an idle, you can press down in the motor, or press up from underneath and the knock seems to stop.
I have replace the upper and lower motor mount on the passenger side, but the knock stays (both of those mounts were worn out).
I have looked as best as I can all throughout the engine well to see if anything might be loose and beating gainst something, but I can not find anything.
I have a feeling it may be the transmission mount on the driver's side (but I may wrong).
any ideas on what it could be?
also, if it is the mount on the driver's side, how hard is it to replace?
thank you
