I have a 2005 Dodge Magnum. I didn't do the oil change on my vehicle when it was do. My car was very low on oil which is the second time that this has happened, I had to put 2 quarts of oil that's how low it was on oil. I've been told that my car is not an old car and it should not be burning oil the way it has. I was also told that the rings are bad and must be replaced. I took it to the dealer and they said the reason for low oil is becuase I went past the date of the oil change. Why would my car be burning to much oil?

Hi there,

Old dirty oil will burn quicker than fresh, do a service and use a good quality engine flush. If oil consumption still a worry do a consumption test first. This will consist of a cylinder leak down test and compression test (Dry and wet cylinders) Do you notice any smoke when you let off the gas and coast? On the gas?
