Unexplained sudden engine shutdown

1997 dodge intrepid, 6cylinder, 180,000 miles: My engine will suddenly shutdown, as if I turned off the switch. It will not crank back (no fire) until I turn the switch off and wait a few seconds to hear a faint click somewhere in the steering column or dash. When it clicks the car will then start back up. This has put me in some real awkward positions. The dealership couldn't find the problem. Has anyone ever heard of this problem or know how to fix it?

Sounds like some kind of safety switch. Perhaps when you get into a wreck. Talk to the parts depot. At the dealership and see if you can get a exploded view of the inside dash/colum area.

Off hand, that is what I would say. Not for sure.
