My 2001 intrepid stuttered then caught on fire. After I had it towed they told me it posssibly blew a gasket and the oil sprayed on the catalyic converter(that was the fire) No lights came on and no warning at all. Car has been maintained with oil changes etc. And there have been no oil leaks on the ground or anywhere else until it caught on fire. Now there is oil on the left side of my engine underneathand the top left side. Why no warning at all? What caused this.

Sounds more like fuel to me than oil. Of course, both will burn, but the stutter combined with the fire sound like fuel system.

The oil leak now probably is a gasket damaged by fire.
