I understand that blue smoke pouring from the exhaust is a sure sign a car is burning oil. My car has this issue. What repairs will I have to make and what can I expect to pay for repairs?

If it does this all the time, it could be piston rings. Requires a total tear down, so you might as well consider a rebuild. Expect around $2500.00. A cylinder leakage test will help in diagnosing bad rings.

If it only does it at start-up, suspect valve guide seals. These can be replaced without major engine disassembly but it requires some special tools. As a guess, I'd expect it to cost around $300.00 to 500.00 or less.
