my car is turning over but will not start. My husband is at work but is telling me it's probably the battery, and he'll check it when he gets home. I want to know right now if it could possibly be the battery, because that would just be to easy to fix! It's never easy with us. I looked under the hood ( like I know what i'm looking for) and I noticed that the battery cable connecter ( the metel part ) is cracked, could that be a problem? It just seems to me that if it were the battery the car wouldn't turn over to begin with.

If the terminal is cracked, it should be replaced. However, you are correct. If the battery was dead, it wouldn't turn over the engine. Chances are there are one of two thing missing, fuel to the engine or spark. You need to check for them and let me know what you find.
