2001 Dodge Durango rattling and popping sound

When my car is in drive with or without pressing gas it makes a rattling or popping type sound when it is moving. When it is in park or neutral and you press down on gas everything sounds fine. I have taken it for repairs and was told bad gas. The sounds seems to be getting louder and more frequent. I changed the gas and have been using higher octane for the last 2 months.

Does the noise change with engine speed? with vehicle speed? Does it sound more like the engine or something in the drivetrain that is rattling?

The noise remains the same volume no matter the situation. The sound comes from driver side, middle of the suv. The sound also has a squeaking type sound also.

Have the u-joints checked, they can make both types of noise you are talking about.
