The car wont start sometimes. Someone said it was the fuel pump, but that works sometimes. This is a 4.7L engine.

Hello,

There could be several different factors for the intermittent no start.

Does it happen when the engine is hot or cold?
Has it ever stalled on you?
When it does not start does it make any noise?
Does it crank or just clicks?

It could be a bad fuel pump, however when a fuel pump fails it will not start back up.

You could have a faulty starter that might be working intermittently.
It could also be the crank position sensor. When crank sensor goes bad it can even stall the engine or will not start sometimes and will start the other.

Another possibility is the ignition switch. Over time the switch can wear off and will trigger the no start.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
