I have a 1991 dodge dakota 5.2L v8 318in. 194,867 miles. I smelt coolant while driveing. I got out to check the level and it was almost empty, also there is a puddle of the fluid under the truck. The back of the engine on the passanger side is covered in it. When I got back into the truck I noticed coolant on my floor mats coming from the a.C./Heater ducts. I am at a loss.

Very high probability of your heat core leaking. It is located in the firewall. The core is like a mini radiator that provides heat to the passenger compartment.
