I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad 4x4 AT.
The problem is the power steering quit working all of a sudden, no warning at all. I have checked the fluid, the belt, the hoses all are ok. There were no noises, no leaks nothing that I can see. We did have the rack and pinion replaced about 6 months ago.
Any ideas what it could be? Thanks so much.

If you lost all power assist and there is no leak, the pump must have gone bad or the pulley isn't turning the shaft.

Check that and let me know what you find.

Thanks Joe, I took it in to the shop and it was pretty much what you said, the pulley was turning the shaft but the shaft had broken or come loose inside the pump.
The mechanic said he had never seen that happen before. Thanks again.
