Holes in steering knuckle that caliper mounting pins screw into are stripped. What are my options? Is it possible to rethread? Do I need to replace the steering knuckle?
Thanks,
Stache

Hit up the guys at Auto Zone, Carquest, or NAPA for a Heli-Coil kit. It will include the proper size drill, tap, some inserts, and the plastic installation tool. Of most importance is to drill the hole perfectly straight, otherwise the caliper will not slide and release freely.

Take along one of the caliper slide bolts that has good threads yet to make finding the correct size Heli-coil easier.

Here's a little trick. The insert must be threaded in from the same side the bolt mounts on. After the insert is installed, peen the casting on the other side of the hole. This will force the insert to stay in place when the bolt is installed, rather than walking the insert out. Some people use thread lock liquid too. Also, you'll notice the threaded part of the bolt isn't real long. Run the insert in just until it is flush with the casting or recessed less than 1/16". If you run it in too far, the full threaded section of the bolt won't catch many threads of the Heli-coil.
