The transfer case requires a lot of work to remove. How do you know it is bad?

This is easy to answer. On my way home I heard a large crunch sound under my truck. When I pulled over I saw the fluid pouring out of my transfer case. I now know that the there was a problem with the front drive shaft and this cause the transfer case to fail.

Hi:

If you are sure it's the transfer case, it will take some work to remove and replace. It involves removing both drive shafts, the cross member, all linkage, vacuume lines, electrical leading to the transfer case, and unbolting it to remove. The transfercase is somewhat heavy, so be careful. I would recommend that you purchase a Chilton's manual. It will give you step by step instructions.

However, if you run into a problem, let me know. I will do my best to help you over the net.

Joe
