The subject says it all. I can disconnect the linkage and the truck still runs if it is shifted into 4wd but if the linkage is connected it stalls and will not start unless shifted back into 2wd. What do I need to do to fix this issue?

This has to be vacuum related. THat is the only thing that the 4wd takes from the engine. Have you checked for any major leaks? WHen you shift to 4wd, can you keep the engine running if you try?

I have tried to rev the engine and keep it running but it stalls just like I turned the key off. I disconnected the linkage, which is manual type, and shifted it into 4wd and it stalls just like when shifted topside. The engine runs well until it is put in 4wd. There is no vacuum line connected to the tcase that I am aware of, just a vent if it is a typical chrysler tcase. (I worked at Jeep for 30 years).
