When reading the diagnostic code that exists, what does over-charging mean? And is it fairly cheap to fix?

It sounds like the alternator is overcharging the system. It could be a bad voltage regulator. You need to check with the local parts store to confirm if the alternator on a 98 is built into the alt itself. I can't remember the exact years, but I know the early 90's were regulated through the computer which ment when the voltage regulator was bad, you had to replace the computer.

Let me know if you have other questions.
