Transmission problem
1990 Dodge Dakota 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

When I drive about a 1/2 mile the tranny slips and the truck stops. After about 2 min I can go again for about another 1/2 mile and the same thing. Do you think the filter is clogged or is there something I am overlooking? What is the capacity of the tranny and the torque on the pan bolts?

I think the filter keeps sucking up debris and the trans loses pump pressure cause the filter gets blocked. A service may help a little, but not for long if at all. The capacity for a dry trans for that unit is 17.1 pints. Use 3 or 4 quarts if just servicing. And the pan bolts are supposed to be 150 inch lbs. Or 12 and a half foot lbs. Use type 7176 Mopar type fluid. If the gasket you use tells you a different tightening torque for the oil pan, use that instead. Ok Mr. Fredtabor.
