High rev while driving service engine light

I have a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.3L engine. It has 175K miles on it.
While driving, the engine RPM suddenly increased and the service engine light went on. I pulled into a parking lot and turned the engine off. It restarted easily but when I shifted to drive it stalled. This happened twice. I then started the engine and shifted to reverse and the engine stayed running. I shifted to drive and it was still ok. I left the car in the parking lot over night. When I came back the next day the engine started right up and it drove normally. The service engine light was still on. I checked the codes and the only code that came up is 55. Since there was no information I pulled the battery cable to clear the light. I have driven the car short distances and it seems fine. The service engine light is still off. Any idea on what I should replace? The fuel pump was replaced about 40K miles ago.

A 2000 caravan wouldn't give an obd1 trouble code.
It could be a lot of things on a dodge that old. I need more info. You needed the obd2 code. My guess is the tps went crazy because of a fault.

I took your advice and drove the van to Autozone and had the codes read. It said the shift control solinoid is bad. The dealer want 250 for the part. Is that someting worth getting from a junk yard?
I don't know if this is related or not but the van is now leaking transmission fluid. There was a puddle about an inch wide and about 3 inches long when I pulled out to go to autozone. I checked the level and it was slightly above the cold add mark so it must have lost some while I was driving.

At that mileage the problem is probably pretty bad. If it is affordable a rebuilt trans mission is probably cheaper in the long run than spending 600 to fix a 175K tranny. The only other consideration becomes than. What shape is the engine and is it worth it?
