I have a used 2004 Dodge Caravan. (84,000 km, 3.3l). The Engine warning light has been on for a few weeks and my mechanic says its nothing obviuos that he can find. He claims for several hundred $$ a diagnostic can be done to determine the exact cause.
Is the cost and need for such a diagnostic valid?
(As I wish to get rid of this van, I realize I cannot sell it with the warning light ON.) Greatly appreciated - Al.

I use to go to Auto Zone Parts Store and get a free check when my engine light came on and they would give me the codes and diagnois my possible problem. I now purchased two different ones myself, and has been a cost effective tool to have. Neither tool costing over $75.00 to $150.00 But if you drive by Auto zone they will check your car out free without paying for the diagnostic test at Sears of Good Year or anywhere else. :D
