Hello, I have a 1994 caravan se 3.3L 4sp auto. Was running fine (other than a oxygen sensor code stored) but two or three times in the very hot weather it had bogged out on me then would run fine again. I drove it to work two weeks ago and when I went to start it, it would crank but not fire. I noticed I could no longer hear the fuel pump, Checked fuses, changed both relays (asd & fuel) then checked for power at connector under drivers door. Had power and ground so I replaced the fuel pump. Still no go. Changed the computer, checked for (and am getting) spark but still won't start. There is voltage at the pump and coil during crank and run. I am stumped. Could I have voltage but not enough amperage? I used to be able to hear my old pump from my drivers seat priming, this new one I can faintly hear if I put my head underneath. Does the pump have to be primed first to get flow going?
would it help if I held the release valve on the fuel rail open while trying to get fuel from the tank
When I get off work I am going to run straight power to fuel pump from the battery and see if that helps get more pressure. I read the ignition could be a cause, but it is the fact I have voltage everywhere that stumps me. Oh yeah, and I already thought of the new pump being faulty so I exchanged it, still no go. Tracing wiring does not scare me so any adeas I will try.
Thanks again
Bryan
