OBD codes P0442, P0455 & P0456. Leaks leaks and more leaks! My mechanic says it's the "vacuum pump" but I'm not sure whether he meant the cannister or the leak detection pump. Or something else? I like to work on my own car when I can (girl power) and would like to give this a whack, provided I do the research and determine it's not above my abilities.

You go girl! Thats the attitude.

We had an 01 in the shop a short time ago.

We had to use the smoker to get it, but I'll pass this along:
First one was a vacuum valve off of the
vapor canistor. If you take off the vacumn line, it should have be dry. Ours was wet.

Secondly we put the there was
a very small leak at the canister; the hose was cracked in two places.
Alos check under the air filter for a rubber line that tends to crack.

May just want to replace all the rubber lines for the evap. Might be just a matter of time before you have to go back into again anyway.

He may be refrring the the Leak Detection pump, If it runs too long, the computer assumes a leak.

Thanks Paul! Initially I was told to make sure the gas cap was tightened, then to replace it (after the check engine light came back on). Light came back on again and then he said vacuum pump but the schematic I have doesn't really have a "vacuum pump". Looking forward to getting my hands dirty (and probably ruining another set of perfectly fine clothes). I'm sure I'll be back either with more questions or for another pet project - my husband bought a '77 Dodge W200 as a plow truck and I've taken a shining to climbing under the hood. My motto: "How hard can it be?"

Gas cap wouldn't typically set a small, med and large leak set of codes, one maybe two of them, Ihaven't come across that anyways although it's possible.
