Sometimes when I release the parking brake pedal and put the gear in drive or reverse, my car seems to be locked up. I have to put pressure on the gas pedal and the car will then make a loud thug or bang-like noise and jerk upon release.

Yes. The only time. Iniitially I was parkiing on an incline. Also, I was pushing down the park pedal too hard. Since I stop doing that it has only happened once.

Hi:
It sounds like the park brake is sticking. There are steel cables under the vehicle. Make sure they are not rusted. Also, oil them. Also, make sure the brakes are clean inside the drum. Sometimes too much corrosion, brake dust. Can cause the shoes to stick.

Let me know if this helps.

Joe
