The repair shop is the place to ask. I use hardware store mufflers that cost 20 bucks and rust out in two years. The original muffler was made of stainless steel and lasted 18 years. A similar high-quality original equipment replacement costs over $100.00. You get what you pay for.
Sears used to charge $19.99 for their mufflers and $5.00 for labor if no other pipes were needed. The profit, after all expenses were factored in was one cent. Their profit came from selling you the two required clamps for 5 bucks. The muffler could be replaced in less than 15 minutes and had a lifetime warranty, (part only, not labor).
Shops that don't specialize in just exhaust work will charge more and take longer. Also, your muffler will cost more because it has mounting brackets built in.
