I have determined that the radiator fans are inoperative due to failure of the radiator fans relay. I cannot locate the radiator fans relay under the hood. The radiator fans 40A fuse is located in the fuse/relay box above and to the right of the battery. Where is the radiator fans relay located?

There is not a relay this system uses a controller which is up by the fans on the drivers side. Here is the location in the diagrams below. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Six cylinder two wheel drive automatic.

Cannot find relay. I have a 1999 and a 2000 Caravan. Cooling fans on 1999 do not turn on. I think it is the relay. Fans work.(bench test) Looked on left side of frame in the front. Removed air filter housing, no relay. Understand it should be a two inch square. Followed wire, goes into large wire harness under the fuse and relay distribution box. Can you help? Tried a lot of people and got many answers, none good.

After never having any cooling problems with this van for almost ten years, I had to replace the radiator fan relay last week because the fans were only working intermittently, and were staying on after I turned the engine off. After installing the new relay, I am now having the same problems with the fans. Is it possible that I got a bad relay? Or is there another part that I should check that can be causing this? I have tried to retrieve a trouble code, and get two, pause, 55. I cannot find that code anywhere.

This would be due to a faulty fan motor. Replace the fan motor and clear any trouble codes stored. Using a diagnostic scanner is much easier in retrieving codes and most auto part stores will do this for you free of charge.

They are right. The codes indicate that your engine is running lean. The K&N air filter system might be contributing to that. That type of system tends to flow more volume than the stock system, and if the factory MAF sensor metering orifice is replaced with just a straight pipe then it will read lean.

On my 1997 the relay is near the strut mount on the driver side. Remove the air filter boxes and it is under them to the side. I hope this helps. It took me awhile to find it when mine failed.

There is a box of relays in the engine compartment with a cover on it, it should be right inside there and on the back side of the cover is a diagram which describes which relay belongs to which component.

Does this model Dodge Grand Caravan have radiator fan relay(s) or just a radiator fan fuse? And if so, where is it located? The Haynes manual doesn't seem to give me a clue.

It's an unnecessarily complicated module on the core support, next to the left side of the radiator, half way down. It must be bolted on to dissipate heat. It will get hot enough to burn your hand, and it will self destruct if allowed to overheat.

This module is used to vary the fan speed for various conditions. It is slowed down to prevent complaints of excessive fan noise. A lot of expense and unreliability to quiet a little noise.

Gentlemen,

Thanks in advance for your assistance! I'm replacing a radiator fan relay on a 2000 4cyl Dodge Caravan and can't get the relay unplugged from the harness. I'm afraid of damaging the connector which of course I'll need to connect the new relay.

Can you point me to an illustration or advise me on how to unplug the relay from the wiring harness? Also, once installed, if it functions properly, do I need to use the pigtail that comes with the new relay? I'd like to avoid the pigtail splicing if possible.

Thanks sincerely!

chances are it is hard to disconnect because it heated up and melted. It should pull out of the socket. As far as the pigtail, if they gave you one, there is a reason or update. If I'm correct and the original one melted down, you will want to replace it.

Let me know if you have other questions.

They gave you that new pigtail for a reason. They have a problem with the plugs melting on to the relay. Cut the wires and splice in the new pigtail.

Jacobandnicolas/Wrenchtech,

Thank you guys most sincerely for your prompt & informative response! Guess that eliminates any need to know how to unplug the relay from the harness.

Thanks again!
