Wife driving home from work. Experienced significant vibration and engine light. No previous problems. Light continues to flash when running.

It sounds like an engine miss. What I need you to do is take the vehicle to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan it for trouble codes. Most will do it for free. Let me know what you find.
