Truck listed above is an Ext Cab SLE1.

In trying to help my dad diagnose brake noise and whether it was coming from front or rear of his truck, he/we managed to locate specs online.

The specs listed front and rear disc brakes as yes and rear drum brakes as yes.

My question is, how can his specific truck have both types of rear brakes showing, especially when the truck in question has rear drum brakes, not rear disc brakes?

I normally wouldn't have even been involved in helping him but due to back issues (and the fact that he sat outside and got extremely frustrated over a long period of time due to not being able to remember how to do the work), I was doing the physical work with him sitting close by and watching my every move. It scared me to think he was attempting to change what he thought was rear disc brakes when his truck actually has rear drum brakes.

Why would this even show up for VIN number specific specs?

Hi,

Where did you pull this information from? Is there a specific website or was this from the OEM?

A lot of times these online sites decode the VIN but with some options like this, the VIN does not specify to that level. They are able to recognize a specific package the truck had and within that package there was an option between drum and rotor. So the website can't tell by just the VIN so the list both as yes. Basically, this is saying that both were available but that doesn't mean it had it.

If you give me the website or a screen shot of what you are looking at, I will be able to tell you better.
