So, I just got the vehicle listed above recently and this is my first Jeep! Haven’t driven it much except it’s maiden voyage home which was about 2 1/2 hours from my house. Ran fine that whole time and since up until today. I took it out to get the wife and I some food then when I got off the freeway it shut off while on the off ramp. Couldn’t get it started again and she had plenty of fuel. I took the top of the throttle body off to see if fuel would shoot up while trying to crank it but nothing came up. The motor tries but won’t fully kick up. I have no idea of what I’m trying to fix here any ideas of what I should try and trouble shoot first would be helpful. Thank you.

You said that you removed the air cleaner from the throttle body, however, the 4.2L has a carburetor so I assume this is what you are meaning but I just want to make sure we are on the same page.

So, if this is the case then I would suggest starting with checking the fuel filter if you are not getting fuel to the carburetor.

The best way to start is to use starter fluid on in the carb and see if it fires for a second.

If it does, remove the filter and make sure it is not clogged. On this engine, when the filter gets clogged, it will just route the fuel back to the tank if it moves it at all.

I included the info below for this so let's start with this and find out for sure if this is a fuel issue and we can go from there.

Thanks
